Linked organisations
St Michael’s maintains valued links with the following organisations:
Trinity at SMNG
We are delighted to have Trinity Church based at at St Michael’s for its Office and Counselling Services. This is in addition to their Sunday Services as detailed below.
Gatehouse
We are active in our support by preparing sandwiches and delivering them once a month to the Gatehouse at St Giles. We plan to resume providing sandwiches to the Gatehouse on a monthly basis. Please contact the church administrator for details. Access to the Gatehouse website is available here.
Holywell Cemetery
We are connected to Oxford Conservation Volunteers (OCV) and help with help with clearing ivy and maintaining the cemetery. There is archival information about Friends of Holywell.
Mission Aviation Fellowship
MAF does splendid work in bringing medical aid, emergency relief and Christian aid to remote parts of Africa, the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific. It has been our chosen charity since 2020.
Oxford Centre for Spiritual Growth
St Michael’s is the home of OCSG and we help organise and run OCSG events and we remain connected even though the pandemic has affected activities. Many OCSG events can be accessed online as well as in person.
Oxford Winter Night Shelter
We were part of the December to March rota for winter nights (December – February) in 18/19 and 19/20. For 20/21 this changed because of the pandemic. We retain our links to OWNS and anticipate further involvement as more normal times return.
St Michael’s and All Saints’ Charities
There is a longstanding association with the Charities as an integral part of our operation, supporting the Church and the wider community.
St Michael’s Oxford Educational Trust
This is one of St Michael’s and All Saints’ Charities which we would like to draw particular attention to. The aim is to provide a small level of assistance for individual educational needs in Oxford. Further details are available here.
Community Groups
Here at St Michael’s we welcome the following Community Groups:
Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous was founded in America in 1936. It is a worldwide fellowship of individuals, working in small groups, who wish to overcome this addiction. Remarkably, each small group is self-managed and self-funded.
They meet here on:
Mondays 6-7pm
Tuesdays 1-2pm & 6-7pm
Thursdays 6-7pm
Saturdays 6-7pm
A link to their UK Website is available here
Adult Children of Alcoholics
ACA was founded in America in 1973 to provide support to those who have grown up in alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional families. Like AA, it runs on self-managed and self-funded principles.
They meet at St Michael’s on:
Tuesdays 7.30-8.30pm;
Thursdays 5.30-7pm, first Thursday of the month only;
Fridays 12:30-13:30pm.
A link to their UK website is available here
Cruse
This is a bereavement counselling and support group which meets here on an occasional basis, that being once a month on a Wednesday. Since March 2020 the service has been more online, with some discussion about actual meetings. Please refer to their Website for further information.
Cyclox
Cyclox is a charity connected to the County Council. They encourage and support cycling, wishing ‘to put cycling at the heart of Oxford’.
We hosted them occasionally prior to the pandemic.
Oxford City Singers
OCS was founded in 2009 by Michelle Creswell as a lighter, but still musically proper, choral venture. St Michael’s hosts their rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 8.30pm. We are delighted by the long queue forming outside and then by the joyous sound filling our Church.
Samaritans
Samaritans began in 1953 in England and is now a world wide network, known primarily for its outstanding work in suicide counselling.
They use St Michael’s as a base on Friday evenings when they are out and about in the City’s streets helping those in need.
St Michael’s Toddler Group
Thursdays from 10am – 11:45am – Play Cafe (in University term time only).
Trinity Church
Trinity Church is a member of FIEC (Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches) and generally meets at St Barnabas Primary School in Jericho.
They are youth-oriented and happily share some of their enthusiasm with us on Sunday evenings during term at 6pm, when they hold their evening service here at St Michael’s.
